Malena Lindberg was quite upset Saturday when she found out that a planned birthday party for her 2-year-old twin brothers had been canceled, along with a one-year anniversary celebration of the Oak Brook Park District’s Universal Playground. Malena’s parents, Megan and Mike Lindberg, had arranged with park district staff to have the party as part of the playground anniversary celebration, because it’s one of the very few places that one of the twins, Max, is truly able to play.
Playdates and playgrounds. I vividly remember, my son was at the age when climbing trees, hanging on monkey bars and running up and down the slide was the highlight of children his age. However, this was not the case for him. He's a wheelchair-using child that has no mobility of his legs nor his arms. He has Cerebral Palsy, quadriplegia and a host of other limited abilities; he was born this way.
Many other spaces for athletics and recreation fall under the purview of the Oak Brook Park District, which also runs a large indoor recreation center, a family aquatic center with new inclusive family locker rooms, and a tennis center.

When life hands you lemons, make lemonade. Then use that lemonade to support a great community cause.

On Friday, August 17 and Saturday, August 18, Oak Brook residents, Lara Suleiman, Ahmad Sulaiman, and their three daughters, Raya (10), Jayda (9) and Aliya (4), hosted a fundraising garage sale and lemonade stand at their home to support Oak Brook's Universal Playground project.

OAK BROOK, Ill. (WLS) -- A universal playground in Oak Brook is now ready to welcome all children and families to take part in inclusive play. The playground was built by Unlimited Play and the Oak Brook Park District Foundation.
The new universal playground is designed so everyone, regardless of age, ability, or critical illness, will have the opportunity to socialize, play, and explore together.

It’s difficult to find a moment when Laure Kosey isn’t smiling when she walks around or talks about the Oak Brook Park District’s new $1 million Universal Playground in Central Park.

Kosey, the park district’s executive director, is excited about sharing the facility with the community, which is invited to the official opening/ribbon cutting from 2:30-5 p.m. Sept. 5 at the playground, 1300 Forest Gate Road.

Despite the summer's rainy weather, the Oak Brook Park District is on track to celebrate the grand opening of a $1 million Universal Playground in Central Park. Brook Forest Student Council weren't monkeying around when they raised $1000 in record time to support the Oak Brook Sandlot Universal Playground project.

"Our goal was to raise $1,000 over the course of the school year. However, our students came together and were able to collect the money in only two days!" explained Barb Mini of Brook Forest Elementary School.

Brook Forest students organized a Monkeying Around raffle and sold hundreds of tickets to support the project.

The Oak Brook Park District Foundation raised thousands of dollars to support Oak Brook’s universal playground project at its first Unwine Wednesday event. Attendees enjoyed food tastings and wine pairings provided by La Barra, live music and raffle as well as wine pull, gift card mall and interactive games.
