Malena Lindberg was quite upset Saturday when she found out that a planned birthday party for her 2-year-old twin brothers had been canceled, along with a one-year anniversary celebration of the Oak Brook Park District’s Universal Playground. Malena’s parents, Megan and Mike Lindberg, had arranged with park district staff to have the party as part of the playground anniversary celebration, because it’s one of the very few places that one of the twins, Max, is truly able to play.
Playdates and playgrounds. I vividly remember, my son was at the age when climbing trees, hanging on monkey bars and running up and down the slide was the highlight of children his age. He has Cerebral Palsy, quadriplegia and a host of other limited abilities; he was born this way.
Many other spaces for athletics and recreation fall under the purview of the Oak Brook Park District, which also runs a large indoor recreation center, a family aquatic center with new inclusive family locker rooms, and a tennis center.
